The crapemyrtles we have introduced fit into two catergories: dwarf and mid-size (or intermediate). Most of the older cultivars that have been around for years will reach a mature height of 15 to 20' or higher. Dwarf crapemyrtles are generally defined as having a mature height of 5' or less. Mid-size or intermediate crapemyrtles are generally defined as having a mature height of 5 to 10'. All of our introductions have the following features: heavily flowered, compact (dense) habit, disease resistance, and many have colorful new growth. One little-known benefit of the dwarf and mid-size crapemyrtles is that if they are dead-headed (removal of old flower panicles) they will rebloom in approximately 4 to 5 weeks. This is easliy acclomplished since the plants are shorter than their larger tree-type counterparts.
